The Playground: Theater Open Mic is a monthly evening of creativity and expression.

Hosted by artist-in-residence Eric Avilés, the Open Mic is an opportunity for you to share your stage work in a safe space. Share a monologue, a scene, a song – or simply join us as a theater enthusiast and supporter.




GUEST PLAYWRIGHT: CHRISTINE EVE CATO

Christin Eve Cato is a multi-talented artist from the Bronx, known for her work as a playwright, dramaturg, poet, educator, lyricist, songwriter, and performer. Her artistic narrative is deeply rooted in her Puerto Rican and Jamaican heritage. Cato’s work is recognized for its advocacy for human rights and social justice. She is an ensemble member at Pregones/PRTT, a founding UNIT 52 ensemble member at INTAR Theatre, and a playwright in the WP Theater 2022-2024 Pipeline Lab. She is also an educator at the Playwrights Center, a member of The Latinx Playwrights Circle, an associated artist with The Sol Project, and a seasonal roundtable dramaturg at the Musical Theatre Factory. Her off-Broadway production, “Sancocho,” won a 2024 Obie Award and was highly acclaimed by The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune.
