In celebration of Women’s History Month, Hostos Center presents a musical tribute honoring the enduring legacy of Mercedes Sosa, the legendary Argentine folk singer and activist whose lyrics and songs championed the voiceless in Latin America. Her songs continue to be beacons of resistance and peace, resonating more powerfully today than ever.
Traveling from Argentina, her nephew, Jorge Luis ‘Coqui’ Sosa, will lead this special tribute, sharing personal reflections on her life and work. Joining him are exceptional artists: Grupo Tepeu, Chabela Rodríguez and Cayenito. Together, they will perform her timeless classics, including "Gracias a la Vida," "Canción con Todos," and "Solo le pido a Dios," interwoven with the powerful poetry that fueled her unwavering commitment to social justice. Fifteen years after her passing, her influence as "the voice of the voiceless" remains profoundly relevant and timely.
