The Hostos Academic Learning Center (HALC), located in room C-596, is a complete learning environment that allows students to receive the academic help they need in a setting that is rich in resources and supports academic success. Throughout the academic year, the HALC programs activities that focus on the skills development of students, including tutorial support, self-guided tutorials, Basic Skills Preparatory workshops, and in-center workshops, some of which are offered through the Writing Center.

Tutorial services are available at the HALC in most introductory courses offered at Hostos. Tutors work with students either one-on-one or in small groups to provide general course review and pre-exam preparation.

Basic Skills Preparatory Workshops are offered during the summer (June-August) and winter (January) to assist students prepare for the ACT Writing, Compass Reading and COMPASS Math I and II.

Grammar Workshops, CPE Practice and ACT Practice are offered during the fall and spring semesters through the Writing Center.

Monday-Thursday, 10am to 8pm, except for math, which runs until 9pm
Saturday & Sunday, 10am to 3pm

Tutoring for the fall 2009 semester starts September 14 and ends December 10, 2009.
