CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP)

CLIP Program new home at 590 Exterior Street

SO WHAT IS CLIP?

CLIP is an intensive ESL program of 25 hours of instruction each week for entering freshmen who have already been admitted to a CUNY college. However, we also accept students who have failed one semester of ESL at a 2-year CUNY college or those who have been referred by a senior college.
  • 3 possible cycles: Summer, Fall and Spring.
  • Day or evening classes-5hours each day, Monday through Friday.
ADVANTAGES OF CLIP
  • Focus on Reading and Writing
  • Development of skills needed to be a successful college student:
    • Oral communication skills
    • Critical Thinking
    • Analytical skills
    • Study skills
  • Daily computer Lab: for writing essays, doing internet research and to improve reading, grammar, vocabulary and listening skills.
  • Voluntary Program: You can complete one semester in CLIP and return to your college or you can decide, in collaboration with your teacher to remain longer. However, the maximum number of hours you can complete is 900 hours (2 long cycles or 2 long and 1 summer cycles).
  • Individual Attention: In CLIP, students are given a lot of attention. Classes are small and students progress at their own pace. A guidance counselor is also available to assist if needed.
  • Tutoring: We have well trained tutors who help students in class or outside.
  • Books and materials: Books and materials are loaned to students or provided to them free of charge.
  • Inexpensive: CLIP students pay only a nominal fee for the program saving their financial aid for college.
  • College Advancement: In general, students who complete CLIP are better prepared for their academic classes. They usually return to college at a higher level in English and have a better chance to succeed. Students who complete CLIP will be re-tested in the CUNY tests at the end of the semester.
