After the tragic loss of her mother, Carmen Báez enrolled in culinary school to help process her grief. She was also determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps as an aesthetician, so she poured her savings into opening her own salon. By immersing herself into both cooking and running her business, she found her passion and became Chef Yala. Her brand evolved from a patio behind her salon to her own brick and mortar restaurant in the Bronx. Chef Yala has allowed her Dominican heritage, her curious mind, and her love of healthy, fresh food to guide her success. Join us to hear her remarkable story as a reminder that we should all invest in ourselves, work hard, and bring our best every day—you never know who is watching! Join us for a conversation with Chef Yala on Wednesday, April 17, at 12 p.m., at Savoy Multipurpose Room. RSVP by Monday, April 15 here.
