Job-seeking students were ready with their resumes and professional attire.
Hostos Community College hosted a Career Expo that turned the gymnasium into a bustling hub of professional opportunities. On Wednesday, March 27, the College's C-building 3rd floor Gym was transformed as 67 organizations gathered to meet the best and brightest of Hostos’ student body and alumni. Dressed to impress in professional attire, attendees were ready to woo potential employers with their polished resumes and sharp presentations, all made possible by the vision of the Career Services Office.

“Leading the Hostos Career Expo alongside our phenomenal Career Services team was an immensely rewarding experience. The success of this event is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and belief in the potential of our students and alumni. Witnessing the dynamic interactions between our students and the diverse array of industry leaders who joined us emphasized the value of our collective efforts,” said Director of Career Services Lisanette Rosario.

Among the employers, some stood out for the many opportunities they had available. Columbia University Irving Medical Center's (CUIMC) staff gathered about a dozen resumes, promoting a range of positions at CUIMC with salaries between $43,000 and $85,000. BronxCare was keen on filling roles such as LPNs, RNs, PCTs, Telemetry Techs, and others. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) attracted STEM students by offering free memberships, internships, and scholarships, with representatives on-site to share employment resources. Moreover, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and the New York City Department of Education were among over 45 employers offering a wide range of opportunities in fields like community health, accounting, administration, early childhood education, and criminal justice, highlighting the expo's diverse range of prospects for attendees. Our own Hostos Financial Aid Office gathered over a dozen resumes for multiple college assistant positions available on campus.

The event saw an unprecedented turnout of over 200 students and alumni who came prepared. They arrived right as the doors opened at 12:30 p.m., eager to seize the many opportunities. The air was charged with excitement and anticipation as participants navigated through the venue, engaging in meaningful conversations with representatives. Attendees were encouraged to research the organizations beforehand, ensuring they could make the most of the interactions during the expo.

The Career Expo at Hostos has been instrumental in highlighting its students’ and alumni's readiness and ambition to enter the professional world, and serving as an effective networking platform. Furthermore, this event has reinforced the College's dedication to the professional development of its students and alumni, emphasizing its crucial role as a bridge between education and career advancement.

Employers came from different industries, including healthcare, social services, and education.
Building on the success of the Career Expo, Career Services will hold two more hiring and career readiness events: the NYPD Job Fair on Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m., and a Career Symposium on Thursday, April 11, at 9:30 a.m. Both events will be at the Gym.

CUNY Unlimited students participated in the Career Expo. CUNY Unlimited is a credential program that expands access to the college experience for students with intellectual disabilities.
