Class of 2024 Commencement
There will be two commencement ceremonies to celebrate the 2024 Hostos graduates. They will be celebrated in the Hostos main theater on Wednesday, May 29, beginning at 1:00 P.M. and Thursday, May 30, beginning at 11 A.M. Marshal Volunteers
The success of commencement is enhanced by participation of faculty and staff as commencement marshals. Any faculty or staff member is encouraged to volunteer. Those who would liek to volunteer are asked to complete the volunteer sign up form. Deadline for volunteering is Friday, May 15, 2024. Positions
There are two types of marshals for which to volunteer. See below. Prior experience is not necessary.
Platform Marshals
These individuals will be responsible for assisting the platform party onto the stage and into their correct seats; assisting the students on and off of the stage when receiving their diplomas; assisting the platform party off the stage at the end of the Ceremony. These individuals will be stationed by the stage prior to the start of the procession and will not be part of the academic procession. However, they will be seated on the stage during the Ceremony. Expect to stand for the entirety of the conferral of degrees in this role (approximately 60 minutes).
College Marshals
These individuals will be responsible for assisting the graduates during the Ceremony. They will work with the Stage Manager to distribute name cards; assist the students in robing; line up the graduates, according to degree and seating; lead the students to and from the stage when they are awarded their diplomas, and lead the graduates out at the end of the Ceremony. Expect to march throughout the processional with the graduates and for short portions of the ceremony (approximately 30 minutes).
Academic Regalia
All marshals must wear regalia regardless of the type of marshal position for which you volunteer. Regalia can be rented from our partners at Herff Jones or from any regalia rental company of choice. Volunteers need to ensure for themselves that they acquire a cap and gown if they don't have them to be able to serve as a commencement marshal.
The Herff Jones website for regalia rental will be turned on during the first week of April 2024. Herff Jones orders can be placed no later than Monday, April 29. Herff Jones orders will be delivered directly to the individual placing the order.

Rehearsal
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to participate in a Marshal orientation which will be scheduled in May prior to the dates of Commencement. Rehearsal will include a review of the roles related to Platform Marshals and College Marshals. Rehersal will be facilitated by Theater Producer, Mr. Greg Brown.
