Supplemental Instruction and Student Engagement Projects

Supplemental Instruction

As a learning support service, SI assists students to be successful and persist in their courses by providing an out-of-class, peer-led learning environment intended to complement traditional class instruction. For each course selected, one to two sixty minutes SI sessions are offered each week. SI activities may include reviewing course content, honing study skills, and enhancing classroom skills such as note taking, summarizing and active listening.

The SI sessions are intended to promote student understanding of course content through guided group activities, application of different learning strategies for helping students complete assignments and prepare for exams. To prepare for weekly sessions, peer leaders complete an extensive training program, attend all class meetings, take notes, read and complete all assigned material and communicate with the professor and SI coordinators.
