Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long are the student presentations?
Most student presentations are between 7-10 minutes.

2. Can a group have the same mentor?
Yes. One group of students can have one mentor to work with them, or a team of mentors can work with a group of students. It all depends on what the faculty and student arrange.

3. Can faculty mentor multiple students?
Yes. Faculty can mentor as many students as they would like for the Symposium.

4. Can staff be mentors?
Absolutely, as long as the presentations are connected to course work done at Hostos from Fall 23 or Sp 24.

5. How large is the audience?
Most students will be presenting in classrooms, so the audience will be around 30 people. The opening ceremony and presentations in the FDR and poster sessions in the Gym may have larger audiences.

6. Can I bring my class to the Symposium?
Yes, please! It helps to build a sense of community and support when faculty bring their classes to the student presentations.

7. Where will the event take place?
In person, at Hostos. Various rooms TBA.

8. Will each student in a group presentation receive a stipend?
Yes, with the support of the Ms. Mackenzie Scott's Gift: President's Initiatives, we are able to provide a small stipend to all student presenters.
