Online learning at Hostos is designed to be flexible and accessible. To help you get started with confidence, here’s what you’ll need and how we can support you along the way. 

🧭 What You’ll Need 

You don’t need advanced technical skills to succeed—but having the right setup will help you stay on track. 

A reliable device 

• A laptop or desktop computer is recommended  
• Mobile phones and tablets can be helpful, but are not sufficient for completing all coursework  

Internet access 

• Consistent and reliable internet connection  
• Ability to stream videos and participate in online activities  

Basic digital skills 

You should feel comfortable: 

• Navigating websites and online platforms  
• Using email regularly  
• Uploading assignments and downloading files  
• Working with tools like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Google Docs  

🎓 Tools You’ll Use 

As a Hostos Online student, you’ll use a few key tools throughout your courses: 

• Brightspace – your online classroom where you access materials and submit assignments  
• CUNYfirst – register for classes, view financial aid, and manage your student record  
• Hostos Email – receive important updates and communicate with faculty and staff  
• Microsoft 365 – create documents, presentations, and collaborate with others  

You may also use additional tools depending on your courses. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you through how to use these tools.
