How-To's
How to register for the Self Service Password Management Service
If you need to reset your password you can use our Self Service Password Management (SSPM) tool. You will need to know your Hostos Login (the first part of your email address). You will have options to reset or unlock your password if necessary. If you have never used the SSPM before you might be required to enroll. Once you enroll you will be able to set your challenge questions and answers, so at a later date you will be able to reset your password if you need to.
Find and save your campus workstation name
Your computer name is now available on the right-hand corner of your desktop screen (as shown below).

If this information is not available to you, please contact the service desk at 718-518-6646.
How to access your Shared Drive folders
In order to get reliable access to your shared drive folders you must: connect using the VPN; then connect to your office workstation using the remote desktop client; and have a reliable broadband internet connection. See the links on this page on how to connect using VPN and remote desktop.
How to access the Library databases
- To access databases or sign-in to OneSearch use your CUNY Login account Username [Firstname.LastnameNN@login.cuny.edu], where “NN” is the last 2+ digits of your CUNY EMPLID and your Password.
- If you do not know your CUNY Login, please activate your account by clicking this link and following instructions. For more information on the CUNY Login, please see CUNY Login FAQ’s.
- For Library assistance regarding the CUNY Login, please use the Library Chat.
How to get a Staff loaner laptop
Hostos Community College might be able to loan you a laptop if you need to work from home and do not have adequate computing resources to do your work. If you need a loaner laptop, please have your supervisor send an email to ITJOBREQUEST@hostos.cuny.edu for consideration. These requests will be reviewed and approved by the Division VP's for prioritization due to a limited supply.
Make sure you have access to a good internet connection
You can use Speedtest.net to test your internet connection; all you need is a web browser with JavaScript turned on (it usually is unless you switched it off) and Adobe Flash installed. The results should give you a pretty good idea if you are having issues with you connectivity and/or speed. If you are having issues you might have to reach out to your internet provider's support line.
